DFW Weekly Recruiting Notebook

2015 S Jamile Johnson

Scout.com recaps the recruiting week of Aug. 18-24 in the DFW Metroplex.

The final week without football in 2014 in the Lone Star State saw several pieces of recruiting news occur during the past several days.

The big news started this past Tuesday (Aug. 19), when Dallas South Oak Cliff 2015 three-star safety Jamile Johnson (pictured above) committed to North Carolina.

Johnson, who Scout.com ranks No. 43 nationally among 2015 safeties, recently decommitted from Oklahoma. He chose the Tar Heels over offers from the Sooners, Arkansas, Colorado State, Louisiana Tech, Louisville, Maryland, Nebraska, TCU, Texas Tech, and Tulsa. Johnson added his latest offer Thursday from Wisconsin.

Also Thursday, McKinney North 2016 four-star defensive end Justin Madubuike reported his latest offer from Oklahoma. The Sooners are Madubuike's fourth FBS offer, joining Baylor, Ole Miss, and Tulsa.

Scout ranks Madubuike No. 14 among defensive ends and No. 132 overall nationally in the 2016 class.

Another interesting item from this past Thursday came from Rowlett 2015 three-star defensive end Charles Omenihu, who is No. 37 among his class' defensive ends. The vocal Texas commit announced via Twitter that his official visit to the Longhorns will be Oct. 4, when Texas hosts Baylor.

On Friday, Arlington Lamar 2016 four-star quarterback Shane Buechele tweeted that he received his latest offer from Ole Miss.

Scout ranks Buechele, the son of former major league Steve Buechele, No. 18 at his position and No. 218 overall in the 2016 class. Buechele already had five offers from Kentucky, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas, and Texas Tech.

Lancaster's coaching staff reported Friday evening at the Tigers' scrimmage in Prosper that 2016 safety Kenan Ivy holds an offer from Wisconsin. Ivy also has received interest from Oklahoma, Purdue, and SMU.

Over the weekend, HornedFrogBlitz.com reported that Euless Trinity 2016 defensive lineman Chris Daniels recently got an offer from TCU. The three-star prospect also reported offers from USC and Western Michigan.

The 2014 Texas high school football season starts Thursday night. Programs across the Lone Star State will play Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in what should be an entertaining kickoff weekend. Scout's Midlands Region team will be all over Texas checking out games and will be sure to provide ample content in the coming days, weeks, and months.

NOTE: East Texas was mostly quiet this past week, but Tyler John Tyler 2015 cornerback Isaac Warren reported his third FBS offer from UTEP. Warren, who is committed to Purdue, also has an Arizona State offer.
