Two down, one to go. Before the 2001-02 season started the Oklahoma women's basketball team had three goals. Oklahoma met their first goal just under a month ago when they clinched the regular season Big 12 title. And on Saturday night in Kansas City, goal No. 2 was accomplished when the fourth-ranked Sooners spanked No. 7 Baylor, 84-69, to win their first-ever Big 12 Conference Tournament Championship. Baylor gave the Sooners a battle early jumping out to an early 23-14 lead. But Oklahoma stormed back with a 14-4 run to tie the game at 27-27, and then went on a 14-2 run at the end of the first half to take control of the game and a 41-29 lead at the half. The second half began just as the first half ended with All-American guard Stacey Dales hitting back-to-back three-pointers as the Sooners would stretch the lead to as many as 19 points. Dales led Oklahoma with 25 points, 11 rebounds and was named the tournaments' MVP. Rosalind Ross was OU's second-leading scorer with 16 points and LaNeishea Caufield added 15. Caton Hill pitched in 12 points and Dionnah Jackson came off the bench to score 11. With the Big 12 regualar season and tournament titles now in hand, Oklahoma can focus on their third goal... a trip to San Antonio, Texas for the Final Four. Stay tuned.
