Player: Landry Jones
Position: Starting quarterback
The rundown: Jones, a 6-foot-4, 219 lb. product from Artesia, N.M., didn’t expect to find himself in the position that he was in last year. But Heisman quarterback Sam Bradford went down with a third degree AC sprain in his right shoulder, and suddenly Jones found himself in a starting position. He struggled at times, but was also very efficient others. In all, he finished with 26 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, completing 261 of his 449 passes for nearly 3,200 yards on his way to becoming Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honorable mention by the league’s coaches.
Expectations for 2010: It’s inevitable that he will be better, but by how much in 2010? It looks like it will be drastic in terms of his decision making within his progressions of the OU offense. He will look off defensive backs much more often and hit the third or fourth target on occasion. Jones will use his check downs more frequently. Overall, he will be much improved and
