No. 9:
Player: Mossis Madu
Position: Backup slot receiver
The rundown: At 6-foot, 197 lb., Madu is listed as the second man in the slot rotation behind star wide out Ryan Broyles. After gaining 475 yards on 115 carries during the 2008 season when OU lost to Florida in the National Championship, Madu moved out to receiver last year and really saw action only sparingly. He had seven receptions for 69 yards at that position and still managed 117 yards on the ground over five carries even though that wasn’t where the Sooners primarily used him.
Expectations for 2010: As a senior, even though he’s not a starter on the depth chart, he figures to be one of the leaders of this offense. Madu and the coaches alike have said several times recently how much more familiar he is with the schemes offensively because he’s moved out wide. So don’t be surprised to see him on the perimeter as well as getting carries around the other backs DeMarco Murray and Jermie Calhoun.
