Player: Brian Lepak
Position: Backup center
The rundown: This 6-foot-4, 299 lb. bruiser from Claremore, Okla. has an interesting story that took him to the starting spot for the final regular season game a year ago. After redshirting at Colorado State in 2006 and playing in all of the Rams’ game the next year, he decided it just wasn’t the right fit in Fort Collins, prompting his transfer to OU. He walked on to the program and eventually started in the Bedlam game against Oklahoma State after starter Ben Habern suffered a leg injury, grading out with an 86 percent in the passing game. So, he does have some starting experience even though he’s listed as the reserve center.
Expectations for 2010: All signs point to Habern being very healthy by the beginning of fall camp and for opening day against Utah State, so Lepak figures to serve here strictly in backup duty. But as mentioned, he has started 13 games throughout his career, and he also played some guard and center last season, six games worth. So all is not lost if Lepak has to step in and perform at the center position.
