Clay Makes Top 10

Brennan Clay

MYRTLE, BEACH, S.C. -- Brennan Clay earned the distinction of being named one of the top performers after the first day of practices in preparation of the Offense-Defense (O-D) All-American Bowl.

Here are Tuesday's top ten standouts from both the East and West squads after the first day of practice at the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.

O-D Tuesday Top Ten
DARIUS ROBINSON  -  CB  -  ATLANTA (Ga.) WESTLAKE
Committed to Clemson
Analysis:  His day was cut short because of cramps, but he did enough to impress us today. His closing is speed is outstanding, which we knew he had, but he showed he was not just a track star, displaying good ball skills and aggressiveness.

SHAWN GREEN  -  DT  -  LOGANVILLE (Ga.) GRAYSON
Committed to Georgia Tech
Analysis:  He is certainly not one of the bigger defensive tackles, but he has been one of the toughest to block. He just keeps coming after you and his center of gravity, quickness and tenacity made him a pain for offensive linemen to deal with all day.

DaQUAN JONES  -  DT  -  JOHNSON CITY (Ny.)
Committed to Penn State
Analysis:  Jones battled through a wrist injury and spent a good amount of time in the backfield during team play and then was tough in one on ones. He is quick off the ball and explosive for a guy his size.

BASHAUD BREELAND  -  S  -  ALLENDALE FAIRFAX (SC.)
Committed to Clemson
Analysis:  Breeland played both cornerback and safety and played them well. He is physical and did very well in one on one drills. He did not do as much in team play with many of the passes being short, but he stood out when asked to cover man to man.

LUCAS VINCENT  -  DT  -  OLATHE (Ks.) NORTH
Committed to Missouri
Analysis:  Vincent could not be blocked today. He one on ones, he easily shed any offensive lineman he went against. He has good quickness and did a really nice job with his hands, particularly on his rip move. It looks like the Tigers got a good one.

SKYLER SCHOFNER  -  OT  -  WALNUT RIDGE (Ohio) SUNBURY
Committed to Michigan State
Analysis: After they found a helmet for him, Schofner jumped right in and looked great in one on ones. He certainly passes the eye test, looking the part of a prototypical left tackle, but his play matched his appearance today. He moves well for a kid his size and won matchups against some of the better pass rushers here.
DAVID BEASLEY  -  OG  -  COLUMBUS (Ga.) CARVER
Committed to Clemson
Analysis:  The East has excellent defensive tackles and Beasley is one of the few guys who handled them. I don't remember seeing him lose a rep in one on ones and he looked solid in team play as well. He was one of several future Clemson Tigers to stand out today.

NICK ROWLAND  -  OG   -  PEORIA (Az.) CENTENNIAL
Committed to Oregon
Analysis:  Rowland looked great to us all day and after practice, the coaches were quick to praise the future Duck as well. Several of our staff members felt he was the best offensive linemen on either squad today.

BRENNAN CLAY  -  RB  -  SAN DIEGO (Ca.) SCRIPPS RANCH
Committed to Oklahoma
Analysis:  Clay played some slot receiver and looked good running routes, but it was when he was at his natural position in the backfield where he really showed his talent. It is tough for running backs to standout in non-contact drills, but his burst through the hole and balance was excellent.

KEVIN SCHLOEMER  -  OT  -  LAKOTA WEST (Ohio)
Committed to Cincinnati
Analysis:  The Ohio bookend along with Schofner, Schloemer also had a good day. He uses his long arms very well in pass protection and did a nice job against some of the speed rushers trying to get around him. He is playing the right side, but looks like he could play left as well.
