NORMAN, Okla. – In the end it came down to two players, but Ryan Broyles was the brightest star on the Sooner offense.

It came down to a battle between DeMarco Murray and Ryan Broyles for the offensive player of the year, but Broyles’ 316 total yard performance against OSU on Saturday ultimately gave him the edge.

On the season Broyles hauled in 76 passes for 964 yards and 12 scores while also averaging 16.5 yards per punt return (445 yards and one TD).

In his two season at OU Broyles has now hauled in 122 passes for 1,651 yards and 18 scores.

Broyles had five 100 yard-plus performances (Idaho State, Tulsa, Kansas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State), but he probably enjoyed putting up the best numbers against the Pokes, the school he committed to before he signed with the Sooners coming out of Norman High.

“Playing out there last year they were really the only team to talk smack to me and again this year they still talked smack to me, so more than anything it makes me feel good to come out on top with a Bedlam win!”

Despite a mental lapse in the Texas Tech game where he drew a taunting penalty while scoring a long TD Broyles has also elevated his game from a leadership standpoint.

“It is crazy,” Broyles responded when told that the other players are starting to point to him as one of the biggest leaders on the team.

“It’s a great feeling knowing that they look up to me. Even going in to next year I feel like I got to be more of a vocal leader. This is really my first time to be a vocal leader, so I guess I am going to have to work on that and go with the flow.”

**Tomorrow SI will name the Defensive POY
