NORMAN, Okla. -- The Sooners were able to fend off a hungry Kansas State team on Saturday night, despite some miscues. How were they able to do it? By scoring touchdowns when they got the ball in the red-zone.

Last year Oklahoma had the most prolific offense in the history of college football, because they were able to score a touchdown 85% of the time they had the ball inside the scoring zone.

This season the Sooner offense has struggled at times because they have not been able to punch it in.

Coming in to the contest against Kansas State the Sooners were only scoring a touchdown inside the red-zone 60% of the time.

Saturday night they were perfect from in the red-zone, going 5-5 and scoring five touchdowns, which quite honestly was the difference in the game.

"That was really positive to have all touchdowns,” stated OU Head Coach Bob Stoops in the post-game. “That's a big factor in the game to punch the ball in when we had our chances.”

“I thought Kevin Wilson and our offensive coaches have done an excellent job to continually mold our offense with the changes we have had to make. Today I thought we were really sharp. We started the game in a really good way and in the second half they answered back when they had to.

“It was pleasing.”

OU Offensive Coordinator Kevin Wilson agreed with Stoops sentiments on the team’s success in the scoring zone, and that it ultimately played a huge factor in the final outcome.

It also shows that the OU offense has started to grow and mature.

“They (KSU) stayed true to what they believed in, kept themselves in the ball game, but if we can score sevens and get some points, the way our defense typically plays, it has a chance to be a really great night for us,” informed Wilson.
