NORMAN, Okla. -- A road game against No. 24 Kansas will be a true test of the Oklahoma Sooners character. Will the team turn in or turn it on?

This week’s game will say a lot about the make-up of the ’09 Sooners.

Coming in off a heartbreaking loss to the hands of their bitter rival, Texas, OU will have to go on the road and play a feisty Jayhawk team that is also desperate for a win.

Will they come in with a desire to turn it around, or will they answer the call?

“We got to piece it all together and finish it (the season),” said OU captain Brody Eldridge, who has started at three different positions this season.

“It will (say a lot about the character of the team). Coming back is all about what type of character you, what kind of attitude you are going to have out there in practice. You have got to attack every practice like it is Texas week. You have to be ready to go all week.”

Eldridge was proud of the fact his teammates have responded with a solid, crisp practices.

“Nobody was hanging their head or anything,” Eldridge stated. “We were ready to go back to work.”

Last week KU got upset by Colorado, which put them in a tough spot to win the Big 12 North, especially with a number of tough games left on the schedule.

A win over Ou would put them right back on track, and would obliterate any remaining hope the Sooners have in the South race.

OU head coach Bob Stoops knows that Kansas is a talented team and they have the offensive weapons to beat any team.

“Coach Mangino and his staff are doing an awesome job, consistently too,” Stoops began. “They’re an excellent team.”

“I will tell you that those three guys with (Todd) Reesing, (Kerry) Meier, and (Dez) Briscoe, that’s a heck of a group of players. Big play guys that make a ton of big plays. And they spread the ball out (and) they run effectively. They do a great job. Defensively they are consistently very fundamental, sound on how they are playing. It’s another good challenge.”

Oklahoma leads the series with Kansas, 67-27-6, including a 31-15-4 advantage in Lawrence. OU has won the last five meetings between the two.
