DALLAS, Texas -- Gerald McCoy and the OU defense played a great game in the 16-13 loss to Texas, but came up just short. After the game McCoy met with reporters to discuss the game.

Gerald McCoy may have played what was his best game in the crimson and cream on Saturday afternoon in a 16-13 loss to the hands of the Texas Longhorns.

Throughout the course of the game he accumulated three tackles (two of them for a loss) and a sack, but more importantly he also kept Texas quarterback Colt McCoy off balance by knocking him down five times.

He was also able to draw a number of penalties on the Texas offensive line, as guard David Snow had nothing to do at times but reach out and grab the All-American defensive tackle as he flew by.

Still the Sooners fell short and while the defense played admirably McCoy wishes that they could have gotten the ball back in the hands of his offense one last time.

“Personally I feel we played well on defense,” McCoy began. “We played our hearts out and we played hard the entire time.”

“We went back and forth all day. Our defense made stops when we needed to. But at the end of the game we needed to get that stop again and we just didn’t do it.”

After Dominique Franks and Mossis Madu put the ball on the ground in the return game the OU defense, which had been stifling throughout the first half found themselves on the field for 35-of-41 consecutive snaps.

It seemed from watching the game that the OU defense may have tired through that stretch, where Texas was able to grab a 13-6 lead. But McCoy does not agree with those sentiments.

“We came in prepared to get a whole bunch of snaps,” admitted McCoy. “We came in ready for tempo. We came in ready for a whole bunch of plays. I don’t think it was necessarily that we got worn down, but they made plays and we did not get the stops when we needed to.”

“They just executed well.”
