Sooners Illustrated has been leading the charge with high quality camp information so far in 2009 and in this report we take a look back at the first three-day camp session and talk about some of the best players who were there, as well as name our MVP’s…

One-Day Co-MVP (Wednesday): QB Blake Bell – Bishop Carroll (Kan.)

Bell got some tough reviews after his Elite 11 performance, but he came in to the OU camp throwing a solid ball and was hooking up with the top receivers throughout the day. He was also the main attraction of the camp as people lingered around him the whole time he was working out. We could also talk all day long about his physical make-up as he is a monster. He is the best looking specimen I have seen coming out of high school since Ryan Mallet.

One-Day Co-MVP (Wednesday): OL Bronson Irwin – Mustang High (Okla.)

Irwin has never really blow people away with his physical make-up as he does not have one of these long and lean tackle type of frames, but he has an offensive lineman’s frame. He displayed tremendous footwork and uses his hands very well. He was the best OL in the camp that was loaded up with solid stars. He was dominant in 1v1 competition. He was tabbed as a guard coming in to the camp, but it now looks like he could also get a look at offensive tackle in the Sooner system.

Three-Day MVP: S Harvey Jackson – (Texas)

Jackson came out to camp with the hopes of earning a scholarship offer and he had a solid performance all three days that he was on campus, and just narrowly edged out OU commit Sheldon McClain for SI’s the three-day MVP award. It is not yet clear of he attained his goal of getting an offer, but he is talented enough to play for anybody in the country. He was one of the most physically impressive guys from a physical standpoint, but what grabbed my attention was his willingness to try to get better and learn under Coach Wright’s tutelage.

Super Sleeper Award: RB/CB Jordan Wells – Round Rock High (Texas)

“Jweezy” was one of the very best at the U.S. Army Combine and he did well at both running back and defensive back at the OU camp. He is super slick and has a ton of speed. He was also one of the most physically impressive players in attendance. I expect him to have a Marcus Trice type of summer where a host of schools step in with offers after getting the chance to see him perform first hand.

Co- Top Underclassman: WR Miles Onyegbule – Arlington High (Texas)

This kid has a great frame that would remind many of the great Malcolm Kelly. He was on fire early on in the camp and did not drop a ball and showed rock solid route running skills to go along with his great hands. He got the yips towards the end of the camp and dropped a few balls in the final 1v1 portion of the one-day camp, but by that time he had already impressed enough to earn the acknowledgement of being the most impressive looking underclassman. He will likely have a pile of offers before his junior season comes to an end.

Co-Top Underclassman: (OL) Brey Cook – Har-Ber High (Ark.)

Cook may have been an underclassman, but he was right there with Irwin challenging for the top spot among the offensive line. Like the aforementioned Irwin he has a great wide-frame body type and moves well, which helps him open up holes and protect his quarterback. He used his hands extremely well and was rock solid in all of the drills, including the 1v1 drills.
