Two days ago the Sooners defensive line got a boost when Gerald McCoy announced that he would return to the team in 2009.
Today, the offensive line got the same kind of boost today when Trent Williams announced that he was opting not to enter the NFL Draft and would come back for one more season.
Williams would have likely been one of the top linemen in he draft, but he would likely bolster his draft status with a stellar 2009 performance.
The 6-foot-5, 305-pound right tackle was a huge part to the Sooners success in 2008 and his blocking up front usually cleared the way for DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown, who both rushed for over 1,000 yards.
Williams will likely make the move to left tackle in 2009.
“He was always one of the guys that graded the highest,“ OU head coach Bob Stoops said of Williams’ early play. “There are times that people get the better of him, but he grades out consistently very high.
Presser Set: The Oklahoma football program will hold a press conference at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
