The 12th ranked Sooners had little problem in rolling on to their second victory of the season on Monday night.
They jumped out to an early 20-5 lead, and that was before superstar Blake Griffin even scored his first points of the contest.
While Griffin did not even attempt his first shot until there was only 7:41 to go in the first half he still ended up leading all scorers with points (20) and rebounds (19).
For the second consecutive game Griffin set a career mark in rebounds.
“Coach (Mark) Cline told me to stay in there and stay active,” Griffin explained. “Eventually I got some touches and it worked out.”
For the second consecutive game OU had a strong defensive showing. They caused 25 turnovers and limited MVSU to 32% shooting.
“I am proud of our guys. I thought we did some good things especially on the defensive side of the ball,” OU head coach Jeff Capel said after the game.
“We are pleased with this win, but we have a quick turnaround and play against a really, really good team tomorrow with a special, special player.”
Freshman phenom Willie Warren is still struggling from the three-point arc, but he had a little coming out party and proved that he is able to make things happen for himself and his teammates off the dribble.
“It really has not been falling the last two games,” Warren said of his outside shot.
“The coaches just really have been watching film with me and showing me the gaps where I have seams to get to the cup and they were just telling me don’t settle for the jump shot and get to the lane and that is what I tried to do today.”
