WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Last Week:
The Sooners were voted No. 1 in the Big 12 Conference Coaches’ Preseason
Poll. OU claimed seven of a possible 11 first-place votes (coaches were not
allowed to vote for their own team) to lead a close second-place vote between
Texas and Iowa State, respectively.
This Week:
OU begins practice Friday, Oct. 17, at the
Lloyd Noble Center in
Norman. The Sooners will also be present at next week’s Big 12 Media
Conferences in Oklahoma City (Wednesday, Oct. 22).
Notes:
The OU women’s basketball team returns 11 players, including four starters,
from last year’s team. Leading the charge will be three-time consensus
first-team All-American
Courtney Paris and Big 12 Freshman of the Year Danielle Robinson.

GOLF
Last
Week: Carol
Ludvigson's Sooners finished in fifth place at the 13-team Windy City
Collegiate Championships in Skokie, Ill. The 54-hole tournament was played at
the 6,350-yard, par-72 Evanston Golf Course and was hosted by Northwestern
University. Sophomore Ellen Mueller (third place) and senior Kendall Dye
(ninth place) both finished in the top 10.
This week:
The Sooners return to the links Monday through Wednesday (Oct. 13-15) at the
18-team Price's "Give 'Em Five" Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. New Mexico State University will host the 54-hole tournament at the 6,319-yard, par-72
New Mexico State University Golf Course. Eighteen holes will be played
each day with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MST Monday and Tuesday, and at
7:45 a.m. MST on Wednesday.
Notes: OU heads to New Mexico looking to defend last year's
Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” championship title ... Senior Kendall Dye,
sophomores Ellen Mueller and Sara Hemingway and freshman Brooke Collins will
compete in their third tournament of the season while freshman Kelly Short
will participate in her second ... Senior Staci Smoot will make her season
debut for the Sooners, competing as an individual this week.

SOCCER
Last
Week: The Sooners finished 0-1-1 over the weekend with a pair
of home games that started with a 2-0 loss to No. 22 Missouri on Friday. OU
(1-12-1 overall, 0-4-1 Big 12) bounced back on Sunday to snap a 10-game losing
skid with a 1-1 double overtime tie versus Kansas on Sunday.
This Week:
The Sooners will play at No. 10 Texas (9-2-2, 2-2-1) on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7
p.m. and then head to Waco, Texas, to battle Baylor (5-7-2, 1-3-1) on Oct. 19,
at 1 p.m.
Notes:
Sophomore forward Whitney Palmer scored her team-leading sixth goal of the
season against Kansas. The goal was the 12th of Palmer’s career,
which places her in sole possession of 10th place all-time on OU’s
career goals scored list … The Sooners have five games remaining in the
regular season, with the final three played at home.

MEN'S
TENNIS
Last Week: Three Sooners participated in the ITA All-American
in Tulsa, Okla. Sophomore Ionut Beleleu, who was able to advance out of
pre-qualifying, and senior Sergey Avdeyev both won matches in the qualifying
round. Avdeyev fell one round short of advancing to the main draw in singles.
No. 22 Andrei Daescu fell in his first match in the main draw on Thursday.
This Week:
Oklahoma continues its fall slate with another ITA tournament in
Fayetteville, Ark. The ITA Central Regional Championships kick off on Friday
Oct. 17.
Notes: Ionut Beleleu had his fall winning streak snapped at
seven on Tuesday with a loss to Florida's Carlos Cuento, 6-3, 6-2.
WOMEN'S
TENNIS
Last Week:
The women's tennis team traveled to Evanston, Ill., to compete in the Wildcat
Invitational, Oct. 10-12. The Sooners posted a combined 18-23 record over
the three-day tournament, with a 13-15 record in singles and 5-8 in doubles.
Redshirt freshman Kristin Gray led the team in singles, posting a 3-1 record
over the weekend.
This Week: The Sooners head to Salt Lake City, Oct. 15-18,
to compete in the ITA Central Regional Championship Tournament.
Notes: In Evanston, the team faced its toughest competition
this season. Out of the 10 teams competing in the Wildcat Invitational, seven
finished the 2007-2008 season in the ITA top 75 ... Northwestern, the host
school, finished last season ranked No. 2 nationally and has five individuals
ranked in the 2008 preseason ITA top 125 in singles.

VOLLEYBALL
Last Week: The Oklahoma volleyball team battled but was
unable to upset second-ranked Nebraska as the Huskers won in straight sets in
front of a sold out crowd of 4,091 at
Nebraska Coliseum on Oct. 8. The Sooners fell 25-16, 25-19 and 25-14 to
the Huskers. The team fell in five sets to 16th-ranked Kansas State on Oct.
11. The Sooners (7-10, 3-5 BIG 12) won the first two sets,
25-18 and 25-22, but the Wildcats responded, taking the third set 26-24 and
the last two, 25-20 and 15-9.
This week: OU hosts Colorado Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
before hitting the road to take on Kansas Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
Notes: All four of Oklahoma’s true freshmen saw playing time
at Nebraska, including
defensive specialist Kylie Cowan, who saw action for the first time
this season ... One of those freshman, Caitlin Higgins, led OU with her
seventh double-double of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs ... Against
Kansas State, Higgins tallied her eighth double-double of the season with 15
kills and 14 digs ... Freshman Brianne Barker added her ninth of the season
with 40 assists and 12 digs ... Sophomore Chrissy Disarro tallied a
career-high 11 kills and led the Sooners with a .333 hitting clip.
Promotions: The first 250 fans in attendance at Wednesday
night’s game will receive an OU volleyball pennant.
