There could be a whole bunch of offensive fireworks in this weekend’s game between the Oklahoma Sooners ad the Baylor Bears…

First Quarter: (OU 28, BU 0)

Make it five in a row! The Sooners have now set a strong trend by taking the opening possession and scoring a touchdown in every game so far in 2008.

It only took the Sooners three plays this time as Manuel Johnson and Sam Bradford picked up where they left off last week when Manny popped wide open on the sideline for a 55-yard touchdown to give the Sooner an early 7-0 lead.

The second Sooner score of the day would come on their second possession, but he drive was a little more methodical and was helped along by a costly (for Baylor) pass interference call in the end-zone on a ball that was intercepted by BU linebacker Joe Pawalek. On the very next play from the 2-yard line DeMarco Murray would punch in his fourth touchdown of the year to make it 14-0.

OU would continue to pour it on after the Baylor punter shanked one to give the Sooners great field position. A couple of runs and a couple of passes later Bradford would lower his shoulder and drive the ball in to the end-zone on a quarterback sneak to give OU a commanding 21-0 first quarter lead.

The most impressive drive of the quarter may have come on the Sooners’ fourth possession. They would take over on the BU 32-yard line and show their dominance by picking the Bears apart all the way down the field. The best play may have come when Bradford was chased from the pocket, but he was able to keep his composure and dump the ball off to Jermaine Gresham who pounded the ball inside the five. It would then be OU third string running back Mossis Madu who would pound in his third score of the year to make it 28-0.

Second Quarter: (OU 35, BU 14)

Given enough chances Baylor’s Robert Griffin is going to hurt you, and that was exactly what he did on the opening play of the second quarter. After OU blanketed the BU receivers Griffin pulled the ball down and scampered up the sidelines deep in to OU territory. The OU defense would then tighten up, but a Lendy Holmes pass interference call would give BU a first and goal and Griffin would be able to take advantage with a one-yard TD run to cut the score to 28-7.

Juaquin Iglesias would get in on the high scoring first-half affair when he hauled in a 42-yard pass from Bradford to put the Sooners back out on top at 35-7. The pass was set-up by some hard in between the tackle runs and as soon as the BU defense was all set to stop the run the OU offense took advantage and went deep.

Baylor wasted little time in answering OU’s score once again behind the legs of Robert Griffin. On the drive he would rush the ball seven times and eventually push the ball in to the scoring zone to once again make it a 21-point game at 35-14. The biggest news on the drive for the Sooners may have been the play before the TD run DT Gerald McCoy hobbled off the field with what looked like a foot or lower leg injury.

Third Quarter: (OU 42, BU 17)

The Sooners took their first possession of the second half and did exactly what they did with the first possession in the first half, scored a TD. Chris Brown would blast it in from three yards out on fourth and short to give OU a 42-14 lead. The plays that set up the score was a Iglesias long pass and run, where he dodged defenders on his way inside the 10-yard line. Iglesias now has more than 2,000 yards receiving in his career at OU.

Baylor would tack on a field goal to make it 42-17 heading in to the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter: (OU 49, BU 17)

OU would put a cap on the scoring by grinding out a 92-yard drive that was a huge positive, because it showed that the Sooners are capable of playing well late in a ball game if the scenario arise later on this season. Murray would score his second TD of the day from one yard out to cap off the final scoring drive of the day.
