Oklahoma is definitely in search of a talented defensive tackle for the class of 2009. While Jamarkus McFarland gets a lot of the national attention, San Antonio's Calvin Howell is one of the most talented interior linemen in his own right and he also lists OU amongst his top three favorites. Scout.com has more on his recruitment.

Defensive tackle Calvin Howell of San Antonio (Warren), Texas is finding out just how popular a 6-4, 285-pound defensive tackle from Texas can be.

"It is mind blowing," said Howell of the recruiting process so far that has seen him hit unofficial visits at Texas and OU and draw offers from 27 schools. "I have to stay humble, but I never thought it would be like this. I thought that I would have two or three schools to choose from. I'm still getting about three new offers a week and I get 40 to 50 letters a week, more like a day because I get 'em at school and then I go home."

When asked for an "A" list of the schools that have offered so far he offered up this list. "Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, I would say Oklahoma State makes the A list," added Howell. "Then there is Tennessee."

He added that he has seen a bunch of schools come by his school and they don't start spring football practice in pads until Monday. Howell just set the school record in the bench press with a max of 410 pounds and he has lowered his 40 best to 4.87 seconds.

"Everything is going good, but I have to get organized and I have to narrow this down," said Howell. "I haven't planned on a time table for making a decision. I really need to sit down and think about it."

He did say he will not be hitting the camps and making a bunch of unofficials this summer. His plans are to train very hard, and he is training with the likes of Wayne McGarrity and current Texas Longhorn defensive tackle Roy Miller.

"I'm going to train really hard and also work on my academics," he said.

He added that he is looking to major in sociology. Howell is a good young man that right now sounds like he is having the time of his life, and who wouldn't with the kind of attention he is getting.
