Nunes Receives Offer from OU

A couple of days after Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron made the decision to stay in state the Oklahoma Sooners have decided to make a move on Josh Nunes, one of the top quarterbacks on the West Coast. Nunes was very close to narrowing his list to five schools, so it will be interesting to see if the OU offer will make them one of those finalists.

Upland (Calif.) quarterback Josh Nunes, who last week set the day after Memorial Day as his target date to narrow his list of schools down to five, had another school add their name to the mix on Monday night.

Oklahoma became the 16th school to offer Nunes, joining 15 other schools in their quest to land the strong-armed passer from Southern California.

"I was able to have a great conversation last night with Coach (Josh) Heupel," said Nunes. "I got to know quite a bit more about the Sooner program and what they have going on in and around campus. He seems like a great guy."

Nunes is no stranger to the Sooner program, having seen a lot of them recently.

"It's a cool feeling to be watching them on TV the past year and then to be talking to them on the phone and receive an offer," said Nunes. "Its almost surreal. I can't wait to get to know the staff better and continue to get recruited by such a top program."

The Sooners join a list of schools that includes Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, BYU, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Louisville, Nebraska, New Mexico, San Diego State, SMU, Stanford, Texas Tech and Utah. Last weekend, Nunes took the SAT again, having already scored a 1900 on his first attempt. He’s also carrying a 4.5 GPA.

Nunes is coming off a strong junior year in 2007 in which he threw for 2,105, 14 touchdowns and only five interceptions on 124-of-216 passing (57.4 percent). He earned Co-MVP honors of the Baseline League.
