As the date to report to camp draws near, the 2008 class of the Oklahoma football team is gearing up for another Big 12 run. One athlete who will be making an appearance on campus is Lamar Harris of Gilmer. Harris talked with Scout.com about some lofty goals for his future team.

Last season much of the talk in Gilmer, Texas surrounded super star running back Justin Johnson, but do not let that fool you in to thinking that Lamar Harris is not a super star type of talent himself.

Oklahoma was looking for a great defensive back addition towards their recruiting efforts and they got one when the the ultra athletic Harris decided to go ahead and drop his commitment to Texas A&M and sign with the Sooners on National Letter of Intent Day.

At the time of his commitment Harris was not saying much about either school or why he decided to roll with OU, but that was not because he was not fired up. Instead he was more concerned about working hard on and off of the field to get ready to compete in college.

It seems that working hard and playing early are two of the things that future Sooner Lamar Harris plans to do once he gets to Norman. But really, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Harris has a much more simple explanation than that.

“I’m just looking forward to getting the chance to play and having fun,” Harris said of his future at Oklahoma. “I can’t wait for the chance to get up there and experience playing on a nationally-ranked team.”

When it came down to the final decision, Harris chose Oklahoma over schools like Texas A&M, Baylor, and Tulsa. In the end, Harris said it was the coaches and the fact that “they win a lot” that finally sealed the deal for him.

But Harris just doesn’t want wins, but much more than that.

“I feel like we should win the national title,” Harris said. “We have a large part of our offense coming back, and the only area we lost is in the secondary. But we have already loaded back up on that and I heard we looked good in the spring game.”

Harris said he has already decided that he wants to major in Petroleum Engineering, but does not know whom he plans to room with.
