MEN’S GYMNASTICS
Last Week:
The Oklahoma men’s
gymnastics team claimed the eighth national title in program history, while
freshman Steven Legendre (FX,
V) and senior Jonathan Horton (SR) won individual national championships. Six
Oklahoma gymnasts earned a
total of 11 All-America honors during Saturday night’s Event Finals. The
second-seeded Sooners upset No. 1 Stanford on their home floor in Maples
Pavilion, securing the title on the final routine of the night. Following the
meet, OU head coach Mark Williams was named National Coach of the Year, while
assistants Daniel Furney and Rustam Sharipov were honored as National
Co-Assistant Coaches of the Year.
Notes: With eight national titles, the men’s gymnastics team is now the
most-decorated program at OU, outpacing football and wrestling with seven titles
apiece … Horton’s NCAA title on still rings was the sixth of his career,
extending his own OU record … With his wins on floor exercise and vault,
Legendre became just the fourth OU gymnast to claim multiple titles in one
season and just the first freshman to win more than one event crown … Earning
All-America honors for the Sooners were Chris Brooks (PB, HB), Russell Czeschin
(FX), Horton (AA, SR, PB),
Jason Laughton (PH), Legendre (FX,
V, HB) and Reed Pitts (FX)
… On Wednesday night prior to the start of competition, Horton was honored as
the winner of the 2008 Nissen-Emery Award, given annually to the nation’s top
senior collegiate gymnasts … ESPN2

NCAA Men’s Gymnastics
Championships on Thursday, April 24 at 2 p.m. (CT).

BASEBALL
Last Week: The Sooners finished 3-2 last week and capped it
off with a 22-4 run rule over visiting No. 11
Missouri on Sunday. The
win helped OU avoid the series sweep after the Tigers edged the Sooners in the
first two games (9-4 on Friday and 6-5 in 10 innings on Saturday). Earlier in
the week, the Sooners remained perfect in mid-week action with a pair of wins at
TCU (5-4 in 12 innings) on Tuesday and at home on Wednesday over Southern
Nazarene (15-3 in seven innings).
This Week:
The Sooners will return to action at home on Tuesday, April 22 against TCU at 7
p.m., where $.50 hot dogs and
cokes will be available while supplies last. OU will also host Southern
Nazarene on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and admission is free. Over the weekend, OU
heads to Lubbock, Texas
for a three-game set with Texas Tech. That series begins on Friday, Apri 25 at
6:05 p.m. Game two is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday and the finale is set for
Sunday at 1 p.m.
Notes:
Sunday's 22 runs tied for the second most by an OU team in a Big 12 regular
season game and tied the mark set in 2003 against Kansas State (W, 22-6) ...
That game on May 11 was also the last time OU run ruled a Big 12 team during a
regular season game ... The Sooners loaded the bases six times on Sunday and
connected for base hits on five occasions ... OU's 22-4 victory marked the
largest margin of victory in a Big 12 regular season game for the Sooners
... The Sooners connected for more hits with runners in scoring position on
Sunday (17), than the previous two games combined (8).

SOFTBALL (37-11, 10-2 Big 12)
Last Week:
The No. 8 Oklahoma
softball team remained in hunt for the Big 12 regular season title this week as
it swept Iowa State last
weekend in Ames. The Sooners topped the Cyclones, 5-3, in the first game and
followed that with a 9-1 victory over ISU on Sunday. It was a slow week for the
Sooners as they only played two games all week.
This Week:
Oklahoma has a key week
with the Ford Bedlam series and the Texas series. The Sooners head to Stillwater
Tuesday to resume an postponed game against Oklahoma State. The game will begin
at 7 p.m.,
and Oklahoma owns the 2-0
leading in the bottom of the second. The contest will be televised live by Cox
Communications (Cox Ch. 7 in OKC and Cox Ch. 3 in
Tulsa) with
Chad McKee of KWTV
Channel 9 handling the play-by-play duties and former OSU coach Sandy Fischer
providing color analysis.
The Cowgirls and Sooners will play back-to-back games against each other as the
second installment of Bedlam is set for this Wednesday night in Norman at 7 p.m.
That contest will also be televised live by Cox Communications (Cox Ch. 7 in OKC
and Cox Ch. 3 in Tulsa)
with Brian Brinkley (play-by-play) and former Sooner Norrelle Dickson (color)
calling the game. Following the Ford Bedlam Series, the Sooners will host
Texas this weekend in a
two-game series. The series will begin on Saturday with a 2 p.m. contest and
conclude on Sunday with a 12 p.m. match up.
Notes:
Oklahoma remains in second
place in the Big 12 standings with a 10-2 record and is on the heels of
league-leader Texas A&M
(14-1 Big 12 record) … The Sooners have won the last 11 consecutive meetings
against the Cowgirls … Senior Lauren Eckermann is one of 10 finalists for the
Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award
… Junior D.J. Mathis and sophomore Amber Flores are two of the 25 finalists for
USA Softball’s National Player of the Year Award … The Sooners own 63 home runs
this season which ranks fourth in the country and first in the Big 12.

WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS
This Week: OU turns its attention towards the
NCAA Championships, held
April 24-26 in Athens, Ga. Seeded 10th, the Sooners were placed in the afternoon
session of the preliminary team competition on Thursday, Apr. 24 at 12 noon
(CDT) inside Stegeman Coliseum
on the University of Georgia campus. Joining OU in the first session is
Florida, LSU,
Alabama, Oregon State and
Arkansas
Notes: The top three teams in each of Thursday's
sessions will advance to the NCAA
Super Six on Friday, April 25 at 5 p.m. (CDT), where the national team champion
is determined … The top four individuals from each session in each event (plus
ties) from the preliminary team and all-around competition will also compete in
the individual-event competition Saturday, April 26 at 5 p.m. (CDT) … The 2008
NCAA Gymnastics Championships
will air tape-delayed on CBS at 2 p.m. (CDT) on May 10.

MEN'S GOLF
This Week: The Sooners have an off-week in
preparation for the 2008 Big 12 Championship, held April 25-27 in
Trinity, Texas. The
Sooners recorded four top-five finishes during the regular season, highlighted
by third-place marks at the Scenic City Invitational and Santa Clara
Invitational.
Notes:
Oklahoma is seeking its
second Big 12 title in the last three seasons as the Sooners took home the
conference crown in 2006 at Southern Hills Country Club in
Tulsa, Okla.

TRACK & FIELD
Last Week: Weather
conditions at the John McDonnell Invitational, sunny with a slight breeze from
time-to-time, were perfect as
Oklahoma athletes recorded what could go down as their most successful
meet of the season, if not one of the best regular-season meets in recent
history. Twenty-four NCAA
Regional qualifying marks and 21 top-three finishes including 10 event titles
highlighted OU action Saturday on the campus of the
University of Arkansas.
This Week:
The Sooners host their second of three home meets this season on Saturday, April
26. The 2008 Sooner Invitational will kick off at 10 a.m. with the women’s
javelin. Running events are slated to begin at 1 p.m. and run throughout 5:10
p.m.
Notes:
Scottesha Miller swept top honors in both the 100- and 200-meter dash along with
running the anchor leg on the first-place 4x100-meter relay and finishing second
in the long jump, recording NCAA
Regional qualifying marks in all four events … Leslie Cole ran personal bests in
both the 200- and 400-meter dash to finish first and third, respectively, in
each event's Invitational divison … Kristi Cook and Catherine Odell finished
one-two in the women's Invitational 800-meter run as both ran career-best races
… Latoya Greaves and Latoya Heath both recorded
NCAA Regional qualifying
marks en route to first and fourth-place finishes in the women's 100-meter
hurdles … Shardae Boutte and Tydree Lewis got back to their old ways in the
triple jump by finishing 1-2 in the event as both recorded regional qualifying
marks.

WOMEN’S GOLF
This Week: The No. 41 Sooners head to Karsten Creek in
Stillwater, Okla., for the
2008 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship, April 25-27.
Notes: OU is coming off its third victory of the season April
6-7 at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman.
