Tom Wort, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker from New Braunfels High in Texas became the tenth member of the 2009 Oklahoma recruiting class this morning.
“Yea I committed,” Wort explained. “It has been a lot of fun. It has been a little hectic, but it has been worth it.”
“They (OU) have a great tradition and great facilities. All of the coaches are great too.”
“I had a great feeling while I was on campus, and I feel like I had a great relationship with the coach. It will be a good place for me. Coach Venables is a great guy.”
There were a lot of schools after Wort and he narrowed his list down to a top three of Oklahoma, LSU, and Texas A&M.
“I took three visits to schools that I really liked. I narrowed it down to a couple of favorites. I wanted to make a decision on where I felt comfortable.”
Wort was recruited to play weakside backer at OU.
“They pretty much said will backer or weak side line backer,” Wort said. “Basically they have been saying they can utilize my ability to run side to side on weakside. I can make plays from the backside. Pretty much every school said middle linebacker.”
Had over 200 total tackles as a junior adding 15 tackles for loss, four sacks, three interceptions and one interception returned for a touchdown. A MIKE for New Braunfels, Wort projects to play WILL and utilize his sideline to sideline play-making ability at the next level.
