Swanson Set for Visit

Travis Swanson

Kingwood offensive lineman Travis Swanson is a relatively new name on the recruiting radar, but he will get his first taste of Oklahoma this weekend when he visits the campus for the annual Red/White spring game. Sooners Illustrated has more with Swanson.

Travis Swanson, a 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive lineman from Kingwood High in Texas has yet to reel in his first official offer, but he is receiving steady interest from some programs.

"Mainly I have been getting hand-written notes," Swanson began. "No offers yet…. I have been hearing from Arizona, Rice, Army, and I am going on an unofficial visit to Oklahoma on April 12th."

"Oklahoma would be in a pretty good position for Swanson if they were to offer, and his trainer has been in his ear telling him all about the positives of the program.

"I know that it is a very big and successful school," Swanson said. "I work out with my trainer, Chris Bush, and he spent four years at OU. He really got me interested in them."

"I am excited about getting up there to see the campus and see what it is like."

Swanson has been putting in the work in the weight room, but he believes his understanding of the game separates him from some of the other top talents.

"My knowledge for my position," Swanson informed of his best attribute. "My technique and my fundamentals…. I know how to play the offensive line."

"I believe that I do have the body structure for a tackle, but right now I play guard for my school, but our school is mainly a 60-40 run-to-pass team."

Swanson plans to make camp stops this summer.

"I am going to go to as many camps as possible, to just let the schools get a chance to see me and see how I play," Swanson said. "I will be going to the Under Armour / Scout camp next week."

When looking at Swanson's initial list you notice that there are not any of the major Texas schools on it, but that may change when they find out that a school like Oklahoma is bringing him in for a visit.

"I have definitely heard a little bit from Texas A&M," Swanson began. "I was at their junior day. I have been talking to coach Turner up there and I have been getting mail every three days. It seems like every three days I get a huge stack of mail."

"I did not expect it to be like this. I know that you get mail, but I did not expect it to be this much mail. I would not say that it is overwhelming, but it is something that is new."
