Lawton MacArthur safety Javon Harris has a whole lot of talent and with one offer already in hand he could be on the verge of some even bigger news. In this feature Sooners Illustrated takes a look at his junior highlights and talks with Harris and Lawton Mac head coach Ernie Manning to get the latest recruiting news.

Javon Harris, a 6-foot-0, 190-pound safety from Lawton Mac High in Lawton, Okla., is receiving some solid interest from a few division one programs and has already reeled in his first official scholarship offer.

“I have an offer from K-State,” Harris informed. “The Tulsa coaches also said that they are going to offer. I have been hearing from Iowa State and I just started hearing from Oklahoma.”

Harris racked up 92 tackles and five interceptions on defense and over 1,000 total yards and 13 touchdowns on offense for the Highlanders as a junior in 2007.

He has the size, speed, and strength to play upper echelon division one football, but Lawton Mac Head Coach Ernie Manning says that his physical skills are not the only assets that he possesses.

“He is a great character kid,” Manning informed. “He works hard. Even though he is one of our better athletes he has the dedication to be the best that he can be. He is good in the classroom. He is never in trouble.”

Harris also brings the wood on the field according to the Highlander coach.

“He is a hard-nosed player that has good speed and a great strength level,” Manning explained of his star athletes talents. “He is in the weight room as much as anybody we have around here.”

Harris has already been on unofficial visits to Tulsa and Kansas State, and he is now set to embark on an unofficial visit to see Oklahoma, and there has at least been some talk about an official offer possibly being extended.

“I am real excited to see OU and what they have to offer,” Harris explained. “I would really like to compare their facilities to the two schools that I have already seen. They had some really nice facilities, but I am real excited to see OU.”

“They (OU) are extremely interested in Javon,” Coach Manning added. “Javon is going to be heading over to Norman tomorrow afternoon and I understand that there may be an offer that is made at that time.”
