Oklahoma is is in the middle of a fierce recruiting battle to win the services of Jamarkus McFarland, who happens to be the top rated defensive tackle in the country by Scout.com. Many believe that Texas is in the driver's seat, but he admits that he will take a look at OU and LSU before reaching a final decision.

Lufkin defensive tackle JaMarkus McFarland was one of several uncommitted prospects on campus for Texas’ spring game over the weekend.

“He said he had a good time,” Lufkin head caoch John Outlaw said of JaMarkus McFarland’s trip to Austin. “He just said that they were shy on the defensive line.”

Outlaw didn’t speak to McFarland about his conversations with the Texas coaching staff, simply saying, “I don’t get into that. It’s his decision, not mine.”

It appears that McFarland could take the recruiting process deep in football season before making a decision. He recently cut his list to Texas, LSU and Oklahoma and wants to check out each school on game day before pulling the trigger on a commitment.

“From what I’ve heard other people say, he wants to attend a game at Texas, a game at LSU and an Oklahoma game,” Outlaw said. “After that, he should be able to make a decision.”

The 6-foot-3, 285-pound McFarland is currently ranked as the number one defensive tackle in the country by Scout.com.

McFarland bench presses 375 pounds, squats 420 and runs a 4.9 second 40-yard dash. He has an average grade percentage 92.89, which puts him in the top 20 percent of his class at Lufkin.
