Stoops: No Decision on Jarboe

Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops is holding judgment on wide receiver signee Josh Jarboe until the legal process has run its course. Stoops commented on Jarboe on Monday after the Sooners' spring practice.

Oklahoma head football coach Bob Stoops said Monday that no determination has been made on the future of signee Josh Jarboe.

Jarboe, the 18th-ranked wide receiver in the 2008 class and a four-star recruit, was charged last Friday on two felony gun counts in DeKalb County, Ga.

He signed with the Sooners in February.

Jarboe, 18, who was arrested last Thursday along with James Davis, 17, was charged with theft by receiving a gun and carrying a weapon within a school safety zone.

Jarboe and Davis both posted bail over the weekend, but if the felony charges hold true, Jarboe’s future as a Sooner is in jeopardy.

The penalty in Georgia for possessing a gun on school property is a minimum of two years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines. Also, federal laws say any student found guilty of possessing a gun at school must be expelled for a year.

Stoops said Monday that he had not spoken with Jarboe, who attends Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, since the incident and will not make a decision determining his status until more information comes out.

“They haven’t had any determination on him, I think, out that way, so we’re still working through it to find out all we can,” Stoops said. “The legal process has to happen. Until all that has been worked through, we’ll continue to do our best to et in touch with people there and find out what we can.”
