Sooners Offer Texas Athlete

Oklahoma is in on a handful of top defensive backs for their 2008 signing class. Instead of waiting, however, the Sooners stayed active in the recruiting process, offering three-star athlete Kendall Wright of Pittsburg, Texas, this week.

The Oklahoma coaching staff isn’t sitting back in hopes of landing a commitment for the defensive backfield.

Instead, they’re going after more.

Kendall Wright of Pittsburg, Texas, confirmed Thursday that the Sooners offered him the previous night.

“Honestly, I don’t know what I’m going to do yet, but I was excited to get the offer,” he said.

Wright, a three-star recruit, is rated the No. 75 wide receiver in the country, but was recruited as an athlete most likely to play on the defensive side.

"He's an outstanding athlete on both sides of the ball," said Pittsburg head coach Robert Manley. "He's got great speed, quickness and agility."

So far this season, Wright has rushed 103 times for 873 yards and eights scores; he's completed 97 of 158 passes for 1,060 yards and eight TDs against six interceptions; he's also caught three passes for 66 yards.

Defensively at cornerback, he's got 23 tackles, two picks and two fumble recoveries, both of which he's returned for touchdowns.

Wright stands 6-feet tall, is 180 pounds and runs a 4.4.

He said he's also been offered by Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Baylor and Houston.

Wright said he may come to Norman for this weekend's game against Baylor.
