Sooners Illustrated recently caught up with four-star DE commit David King. He says Texas A&M is still after his services. Is he willing to listen?

David King dropped the hint.

Texas A&M is the only one not getting it.

King, a four-star defensive end at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston, tried to put an end to his recruiting process on May 31 when he committed to the University of Oklahoma.

“The recruiting was fun at first, but then it got out of control,” he said. “I decided it was time to pull the trigger.”

His target was OU. King, the 18th-rated player at his position, made an official visit on Sept. 15 when the Sooners whipped Utah State 54-3.

“That trip solidified my decision,” King said, noting that he plans no other official visits.

Most suitors have dropped King from their wish list, with the exception of the Aggies.

“Texas A&M is the only one still after me,” King said.

Are they wasting their time? “Pretty much.”

What would it get to change your mind? “I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

King (6-4, 235) is projected to play defensive end at OU, but has spent most of this season at tackle for Strake Jesuit, which is 5-0 entering this week’s game with Cy Falls.

He’s living up to his hype.

“He’s having a great year,” Strake Jesuit coach Ron Counter said. “He’s a big reason we’re 5-0 and has done just about everything for us: Sacks, caused fumbles, tipped balls, blocked extra-point; he even has an interception.”

Despite playing on the interior, King still has six sacks and five tackles-for-losses.

“He’s only going to get better. He will be a player for OU,” said Counter, who was a walk-on on the 1985 OU national championship team.
