Palmer on the Radar

Chris Palmer

Philadelphia is home to somewhat of a sleeper prospect in Chris Palmer, a jumbo-athlete that could project on either side of the ball at the next level, but is being recruited mainly at defensive tackle at this point. Oklahoma has been in consistent contact with Palmer for some time now and may get a visit soon.

Chris Palmer already holds five offers from Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, North Carolina State and West Virginia, but the 6-foot-2, 292-pound defensive tackle has been hearing from programs all over the country for some time now and is close to being offered by a number of other programs according to his coaches and father. One of the schools that has stood out most to Palmer is Oklahoma who he spoke with us about tonight while giving an update.

"My father has been talking with the coaching staff at Oklahoma for a long time now and they speak pretty often from what I understand," Palmer said. "They saw me at a camp recently and said they would really like if I came out for their camp this summer or at least took a visit to meet with the coaching staff so they could eyeball me and make sure that I am what it says I am. They said they were impressed with my film and that I was one of their top defensive line targets."

"I know a little bit about Oklahoma, but I don't know a whole lot of specifics when it comes to their school or program," Palmer added. "First of all, Oklahoma is a big-time program and on a completely different level then most schools in the country. I know that they have a tradition of consistent winning and have put a lot of defensive linemen into the NFL over the past couple of years which is a big thing to me. If they have been doing that they can teach me to get to that same point where I can play in the league. My father and I are going to try and set up a visit to go out there soon. From what we've heard it sounds like they are close to offering, but it could be a matter of going to camp and showing what I have which I can do."

Palmer recently picked up his fourth and fifth offers from Minnesota and Colorado after an impressive performance at the Elite College Combine in New Jersey. Since then a number of schools have been in touch with the St. John Neumann product and are hoping to get in the race.

"Colorado's head coach and recruiting coordinator came to the school, but I didn't get to meet them that day," Palmer explained. "They offered me right after I left the Elite Combine as did Minnesota. I just spoke to Wisconsin who also said they want to offer me and requested my transcripts to make sure my grades are ok. I'll also be camping this weekend at West Virginia with my teammate Jewhan Edwards."

Palmer expects many more offers to come in the near future, but has not set a time frame for when he would like to make a decision. An offer from Oklahoma could certainly put the Sooners at the top of the list for the Philadelphia product, however it sounds like a good camp performance will be necessary for that to happen.
