Recruiting: OU still in the mix for safety

Recruiting: OU still in the mix for safety

The latest on Trinity Valley junior college safety Nevin McKenzie.

Nevin McKenzie, S, 6-3, 210, TRINITY VALLEY, TEXAS:

JH: What did you think about your visit to Florida this weekend?

NM: "Everything was good. I enjoyed myself at Florida."

JH: What did you learn about Florida that you didn't know before your visit?

NM: "I learned a lot about Florida that I didn't know before. I always thought Florida was an all-man (defensive coverage) team, but at the position that I would be playing I would just learn what my position would be and what my role would be for the Florida Gators. I would play free safety and we would play man-free, two-deep most of the time."

JH: What are your thoughts on recruiting now that you have visited Florida and several other great schools?

NM: "First, I am happy it is over. Now I can sit down with my coach and my mom and get ready to make the decision where I am going to go to school."

JH: Did you come close to committing to Florida this weekend?

KM: "No sir. I am not committing until I know exactly where I want to go."

JH: Do you have a leader?

KM: "No sir."

JH: Who are still the candidates at this time?

KM: "I am still considering Arkansas, OU, Tennessee and Florida."

JH: What are your thoughts on these four teams?

KM: "I enjoyed myself at all four places. All four schools have pluses and none of them really have a downside. I just have to talk to the people that I need to talk to about this decision and then decide what I want to do."

JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma at this point?

KM: "Oklahoma was good. They have a good tradition of winning and I feel real comfortable with somebody I grew up there — Lamont Robinson."

JH: What were your thoughts on your recent in-home visit with Bob Stoops and Brent Venables?

KM: "I met them on my visit, but I enjoyed my home visit as well. It was OK. I hope they felt as comfortable in my home as I felt in theirs. They met my little brother and his girlfriend on the trip and we all had a good time. I came away from that meeting feeling good about coach Stoops and coach Venables."

JH: What is your gameplan now for making a decision and when to you think you will announce?

KM: "I just want to sit down and talk and see where I want to go. I will probably make my decision at the end of next week or the beginning of the week after."
