About the Flames
Liberty returns four players with major starting experience from last year's 7-23 squad (3-13 in Big South action). The Flames split their first two exhibition games — losing to Barton College (87-83) and beating Cedarville (76-62).

They are led by senior guard Larry Blair, who is averaging 28.5 points through the Flames' first two exhibition games. He was the Big South freshman of the year three years ago and First-Team All-Conference selections the last two seasons.

Thursday's matchup with Oklahoma will be their first official game of the season, and the first-ever metting with the Sooners. Liberty is located in Lynchburg, Va.

Liberty Game Notes

Jeff Capel on Liberty
I think this team is better (than Norfolk State) watching them on tape. Their record wasn't good last year, but they return a lot of guys from last year's team. Usually, when you have a bad year, you're team is very determined the next year. You're offseason usually a little bit better because guys want to erase that feeling.

They're a little bit older this year. They have a kid — Larry Blair — whose a senior and been a really good player. He's been a player of the year in their league and has led their league in scoring. I think he averaged about 23 points a game last year. They have another kid — Anthony Smith — who was the rookie of the year in their league last year.

So they have some talent, they have some athleticism. The kid Blair can really, really score. They have a kid — Damien Hubbard — who's a very versatile player. He can play three or four positions for them.

And I know this is their first game. This is their season opener so I know they're going to be jacked up to play and really try and come in here and prove a point.
