Sooners will face TCU in first round

The winner of the Norman regional will play the winner of the Rice regional in a best-of-three series (beginning June 9) for the right to go to the College World Series in Omaha. OU lost to Rice 8-2 on Feb. 17 in Houston, but bounced back to beat the then top-ranked Owls 15-3 on April 18 in Norman. Rice is seeded as the No. 2 team in the overall field of 64.

The Sooners are the top seed in the Norman regional, Houston is No. 2, Wichita State is No. 3 and TCU is No. 4. OU is 2-2 against teams in the regional. The Sooners lost to Wichita State 12-2 in Norman and 9-5 in Wichita and beat TCU 10-5 in Fort Worth and 12-11 in Norman.

The regional, which is the first in Norman at L. Dale Mitchell Park since 1977, will get underway Friday, June 2 at 1 p.m. with Wichita State against Houston. Again, OU and TCU will play at 7 p.m. Friday night.

The losers of Friday's games will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday with the winners going head-to-head at 7 p.m.
