Bedlam Blowout: Sooners pound OSU, 21-6

The Oklahoma baseball team took out their Big 12 and Bedlam frustrations on Oklahoma State Saturday night at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City by pounding Cowboys 21-6 in a game shortened to seven innings due to the Big 12 run rule. Senior pitcher Daniel McCutchen (pictured above) picked up the win.
The win left the Sooners 1-2 in the Big 12 Tournament, while the Cowboys finished at 0-3. And OU's 21 runs set a Big 12 Tournament record for most runs in a game.
The Sooners went into the game scoreless in 25 straight innings at the Bricktown Ballpark, but quickly put three runs on the board in the first inning.
Chuckie Caufield
led off the game with a single, which head Coach
Sunny Golloway
said after the game sparked the team. Caufield quickly went to third on a
Russell Raley
single and the Sooners were off and running.
OU led 3-0 after one, and then erupted for eight runs in the third thanks in large part to a three-run home run by senior
Ryan Rohlinger
and two errors by the Cowboys defense. In fact, after three innings only two of the 11 runs against the Cowboys' pitching were earned.
Caufield finished the game 4-for-5 with a triple, two runs and two RBI. Raley went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI, and Rohlinger went 3-for-4 with a homer (10), triple, three runs and four RBI.
Senior
Kevin Smith
went 3-for-5 with a homer (7), two runs and four RBI.
Joe Dunigan
came off the bench to hit a double off the centerfield wall and drive in two runs.
On the mound,
McCutchen
wasn't great but it is not always easy to pitch with big leads. The senior went five innings giving up six hits, five runs (all earned), while walking two and stricking out six.
Will Savage
came out of the bullpen to pitch two innings, giving up two hits, walking one and strucking out two.
The Sooners are now 40-19 on the year, while OSU dropped to 39-18. The Sooners, with an RPI rating of No. 9 in the country, are hopefull they will be granted a regional.
The regional host schools will be awarded on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN News. The complete brackets and pairings are set to be announced Monday at 11:30 a.m. on ESPN.
