Oklahoma lineman Davin Joseph extended the Sooners' streak of having a player selected in the first round of the NFL Draft to five straight years on Saturday.

Joseph, who was the 23rd overall pick by Tampa Bay, is the sixth Sooner taken in the first round in the last five seasons.

Other Sooners selected in the first three rounds on Saturday include: Center/Guard Chris Chester with the 56th overall pick in the second round Baltimore; Defensive Tackle Dusty Dvoracek with the 73rd overall pick in the third round to Chicago; Wide Receiver Travis Wilson with the 78th overall pick to Cleveland; Linebacker Clint Ingram with the 80th overall pick in the third round to Jacksonville.

Tampa Bay head coach Jon Gruden is excited about the addition of Joseph to an offensive line that will block for running back Cadillac Williams, who the Buccaneers first round pick last season.

“I think naturally his best position is guard,” Gruden told Buccaneers.com. “He played left tackle for Oklahoma last year out of necessity. They lost a couple of guys and because of his athleticism, he moved out there and got it done, frankly, at left tackle.

"I see him naturally as an inside player. He is explosive, strong. In a pinch situation, if we need him to go out and play left tackle, he has proven he can do that. If we need him to go out and play right tackle, I am sure Davin would be willing to do that. But we [got him for] the right guard position and we are excited about it.”

Joseph joins fellow Sooners Roy Williams (2002), Andre Woolfolk (2003), Tommie Harris (2004), Mark Clayton (2005) and Jammal Brown (2005) as first round picks during the streak.

“What most excites me is you can’t measure what is inside of this man,” said Gruden on Joseph. “[He is] a very strong, very, very well-put-together, in-shape athlete who has tremendous heart and tremendous character; a very self-motivated man. It basically epitomizes what we want to put our offensive line together with.”

Joseph also became the seventh player to be drafted in the first round in the Bob Stoops era.
