Dallas, Texas offensive lineman Curtis Bailey talks about his visit scheduled and interest in OU.
Recruiting: Sooners land four-star Texas OL
JH: Did you commit to OU yesterday or today?
CB: "I committed to the University of Oklahoma yesterday."
JH: I know you have been thinking about this decision for a long time, so what was it about Oklahoma that tipped your hand there way?
CB: "I chose Oklahoma only because they are one of the top programs in the country. They have a good athletic program, a good academic program and they are close to home. One of the big advantages for me going to Oklahoma was that my family could see me play thanks to the distance."
JH: So the fact that your family is never more than three hours away played a big role in your decision?
CB: "That is right. There is no question about that."
JH: Every time we talk you always bring up academics. That is an important issue for you isn't it?
CB: "I am looking to study law and minor in psychology."
JH: At your size you could always look at that jury and intimidate them couldn't you?
CB: "Yeah, I guess. But I would hope it wouldn't come to that (Curtis says with a chuckle)."
JH: Just how big are you?
CB: "My weight is always between 340 and 350. When I went to the doctor to do my physical I was 6-7 ½."
JH: How big are mom and dad?
CB: "My dad is 5-8 ½ and my mom is 5-10, but I get my height from my mom's uncle."
JH: You play for one of the most storied high school programs in Texas in Dallas Carter. What has it been like to play at Carter High School?
CB: "It is good because we got a new coach and when we came in as freshmen that was his first year. We were his first class that was able to have the same head coach for four years, and we have been able to change the tradition back to when Carter was a great program. We lost in the second round of the playoffs to Garland 12-7 due to our mistakes, but no doubt we are still a real good team."
JH: I know losing the second round was tough, but what kind of foundation has your senior class left at Carter?
CB: "We left a strong foundation for the younger guys. There of our offensive linemen are juniors and I believe they are going to be very good next year."
JH: Talk about your style of play and what you bring to the field?
CB: "I play left tackle and my strengths are run blocking. I do run blocking better than I do pass blocking, and that is why I like a running offense better. I can pass block and I am going to get better at it once I get to OU. I just need to work on my technique."
JH: What other schools did you consider?
CB: "I considered Nebraska, Miami and Notre Dame. I didn't take visits those schools because they scheduled them with me too late and I already knew where I wanted to go."
JH: Have you known for a long time that you were going to Oklahoma?
CB: "Yes, I have known for some time that I was going to OU. I just had great communications with my family and Coach Wilson and Coach Stoops. Then, on my visit, they treated me family great, and that was a good sign."
JH: Are you ready to get into Coach (Jerry) Schmidt's strength and conditioning program?
CB: "I think I am going to lose weight but be lean and tone at the same time, yet I am still going to be strong. When I took my visit I saw some of the types of stuff that they do and I was like 'Oh boy'. I am ready and looking forward to getting better."
JH: What sport are you into now?
CB: "I am going to throw the shot-put and get into weight-lifting."
