Recruiting: Sooners offer Hawaii lineman
Micah Kia is a fantastic prospect from the state of Hawaii that is drawing a ton of attention from all over the country.
Kia is a three-year starter at left tackle, but at times has played offensive guard.
"I think offensive tackle is my best position because I know the most about it. I am pretty new at guard. I like playing offensive tackle the best. It is more fun to play, but guard is easier."
Kia can bench 325 pounds and he went to the Brain Derby offensive line camp in Hawaii every weekend for over two months this past season. Kia also attended a Nike Camp in Maui.
He has been offered by Tennessee, UCLA, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Oregon, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, UNLV, Hawaii and New Mexico State.
"I plan on taking all five of my official visits, but I haven't chosen any schools yet," said Kia. "I don't have any favorites or head runners right now."
What are his thoughts on Oklahoma?
"What I can tell you about Oklahoma is that they are very high on my list," said Kia. "At the Nike camp I got to know their defensive end coach, Chris Wilson, very well and really hit it off very well. What I can tell you is that I think very highly of Oklahoma. Oklahoma is a school I am seriously considering."
What are some of things he will be looking for in recruiting?
"I know no matter where I go I can get an excellent education, and no matter where I go I can play good football," said Kia. "I guess it will come down where I feel the most comfortable. I guess that is what the visits will tell me. I have no idea what to expect because I am from a small town. I am up for a change or college life, but I really don't know what to expect. I am leaning towards leaving the Island, but I am not totally sure."
Kia's won the division championship with a 7-1 record and are one of the favorites in the playoffs.
Kia has qualified.
