Recruiting: OL compares OU, Penn State trips

Five-star Antonio Logan-El talks about his trip to Penn State and where the Sooners stand on his list.

Antonio Logan-El, OL, 6-5, 310, 5.2, FORESTVILLE, MARYLAND:

JH: Talk about your visit to Penn State?

ALE: “It was a last minute thing. I had a scheduled game last Saturday, but our game was cancelled because our field was flooded and they weren’t going to let us play. So I drove up and met with some of the Penn State Ccoaches and they told me what was going on that day.

"It was an impressive game. They played Ohio State and beat them. I think they led the whole game and they played a great game. That was the first time I had been at a game with over 100,000 people in the stands, and that was so impressive. I have to admit that got to me a little bit. I couldn’t believe that people knew me at that game.

"When I came out of the tunnel the student section started to chant my name and a few of them held up signs saying “It was going to be one El of a game”. That had to be a last minute thing because I did not decide to go to the game until the last minute, but I guess word got out that I was there.”

JH: Now that you have been to both Oklahoma and Penn State what do you think about the two programs?

ALE: “They both have a lot to offer. Oklahoma’s fans are just as wild and crazy. The game I went to they had over 80,000 fans and they are crazy, especially the student section. They both have a good education program to offer.

"As of now, Oklahoma made a good overall impression in the areas that I am going to choose a program. Their coach/player relationship really impressed me and the way they conduct their practices really impressed me. They push their players and I want to be pushed and be the best player that I can.

"I don’t regret going to either program and I am highly impressed with both visits.”

JH: Since the two programs are from different parts of the country, did you find them greatly different?

ALE: “In a way it is kind of the same because College Station is a college town as well. They have around 40,000 students, but there are about 100,000 people in the town. It is the same at Oklahoma. They bring in 50,000 fans for the game.

"I think Oklahoma is more of a football state and football is more important to people in Oklahoma. They had a high school game where 20,000 people showed up and I have never played in a high school game with over 5,000 people. I have never seen a place where the whole town just loves football and takes in football.

"I got a chance to chance to hang out with Branndon Braxton and Adrian Peterson after the game in the player lounge, and then went out around the town a little bit. Everywhere we went they had to have 20 people come up to them and tell them to shake off the loss. The players didn’t have their Oklahoma jerseys on or anything, but they just knew them by face."

JH: Have you set up any other visits?

ALE: “Actually, I haven’t set up any other visits. I plan to wait until our football season is over before I set up my remaining official visits. This will allow me to concentrate on my senior season, plus our remaining games are on Saturday. I don’t have any more time to visit until after the season.”

JH: What other programs are you planning to visit?

ALE: “I am planning to visit Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, Maryland, and I may go back to Penn State for a day. I will have to visit one of these schools on my own, and that is a reason why I may not go back to Penn State. I found out all I needed to know about Penn State on my visit.”

JH: I am sure you watched the offensive line at both schools so what were your thoughts on their schemes and depth charts?

ALE: “Oklahoma does a lot of power blocking at the line of scrimmage and then they zone block in pass blocking. I think Oklahoma may have an advantage in what they do on the offensive line, because they do so many different things.

"I didn’t get a chance to watch what Penn State was doing in the offensive line because of what was going on around me. What Oklahoma is doing I am doing quite a bit of in high school, so it wouldn’t be that difficult for me to adjust to.”

JH: Do you have a favorite at this time?

ALE: “I wouldn’t say I could name a favorite at this point. I believe that if I named a favorite that would be unfair to the schools that I have visited. Once I take all my visits I will narrow my choices down to three and then I will do further research and come up with a decision.”
