Recruiting: Sooner commit checks out Norman

Arlington, Texas cornerback Jonathan Nelson talks about his official visit to Oklahoma.

Jonathan Nelson, CB, ARLINGTON (MANSFILED SUMMITT HS), TEXAS:

JH: How did your official visit to OU go this weekend?

JN: "It went real well. This time I got to interact with the players more. The players were real friendly and they were real cool."

JH: So you enjoyed just getting to hang out with the guys?

JN: "My host was Reggie Smith, but I also hung out a whole lot with Keenan Clayton, Eric Huggins, Nic Harris, DeMarcus Granger and Manuel Johnson. That was the best thing about the whole trip. Just to find out that the guys didn't treat me like a freshman or incoming freshman, but instead they treated me like I was already part of the team."

JH: What did you think of the game and the OU defense?

JN: "My defensive coordinator is a very good friend with OU's defensive coordinator (Brent Venables), so we run a defense that is very similar to what OU is running. In fact, watching the game yesterday I knew what OU was doing on just about every call because we do the same thing with our defense. When I get to Norman it is not going to be that big of a deal to me to learn their defense."

JH: Did you watch the corners a bunch?

JN: "I really watched the ball to be honest. On defense, I was watching how similar I play compared to their corners. I liked how they were coached and the techniques they were using. There are certain things that they do on the field that I feel I can relate to. I feel OU has some good corners and I feel like I can look up at them."

JH: How is your season going?

JN: "Our team is 4-1. I am not getting a bunch of passes thrown my way, but I am trying to contribute in some way. In on our one loss, we were supposed to lose by three or four touchdowns and we only lost 20-17 in overtime. Teams don't really run to my side, so against some teams my coaches put me on the boundary so that I can get more action. But then teams run to the field. I don't have great stats because teams are doing everything they can to say away from me. I have one pick and just a few tackles, but I feel I am still making a great impact."
