RECRUITING: Texas Giant favors three schools

Curtis Bailey, a 6-foot-7, 345-pound offensive tackle from Carter High School in Dallas, Texas, talks about his summer plans, three early leaders, potential visits and interest in Oklahoma. Bailey is currently ranked No. 19 on the Scout.com Texas Hot 100 list.

Curtis Bailey, OL, 6-7, 345, DALLAS (CARTER HS), TEXAS:

JH: I haven't talked to you in a while...how big are you at this point?

CB: "I am currently at 345 pounds. I actually don't know my height because I have no way of measuring that. But my weight is accurate. I have lost a little weight since the last time we talked."

JH: Give us an idea what a day is like for you this summer?

CB: "I am doing nothing but working and working out. I don't get to sleep in much because the days that I am off work I have to get up and workout. Every once in a while I get to sleep in until around noon, but that doesn't happen very often. We work out at school. One week I go arms and chest Monday and Wednesday. and then legs the other days. And then I try to change it up next week."

JH: How are you getting stronger this summer?

CB: "I think I have improved my bench and squat, but I don't know yet because I don't have anybody that can spot me on my heavy lifts working out with me right now. There are about three of us that lift a lot of weights, and right now one of those guys is in New York and the other is working a lot so they aren't working out with me right now. When they are not there, I have to take the weight off a little bit because I have to spot myself. My goal was to get to 405 by the end of the summer. I am pretty sure I am going to get there."

JH: Did you go to any camps, junior days or spring games?

CB: "I went to two junior days and one spring game. I went to the Texas and Texas A&M junior days and the Texas A&M spring game. Those experiences were good, but I think I could have chosen better schools. I also went to the U-S All-American Combine in Waco."

JH: You are ranked very high in Texas and on a national scale. How much do you like the attention?

CB: "I am really not taken back about the attention because I really don't like to get that much attention. It does point out that I am doing things right and that I must be a success. It does motivate me to play better and play as good as a can in every practice and game."

JH: How many schools have offered you at this time?

CB: "I have been offered by seven schools. I have been offered by Oklahoma, Nebraska, Colorado State, Baylor, OSU, Arizona and Duke."

JH: Do you have a favorite or have you narrowed down your choices?

CB: "I don't have a favorite, but I have narrowed down my choices. I have narrowed it down, in no particular order, Oklahoma, USC and Notre Dame, but USC and Notre Dame haven't offered me yet. I have also talked to Miami and Kansas State about taking official visits and they are talking about offering me. We will see what happens."

JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma?

CB: "I like Oklahoma a lot. I like their school and combination of athletics and academics. I think their coaches have a good relationship with their recruits. I don't want to play for a coach that is just going to call me and say 'hey fat so and so (laughter), what is up.' I want a real coach to recruit me and coach that really cares about me. Coach (Kevin) Wilson is the real deal. You will never hear me say anything bad about him."

JH: Have you decided who you would like to visit?

CB: "I hope to visit Oklahoma, USC, Notre Dame, Miami and Kansas State. I do not want to go to any Texas schools."

JH: Are you an offensive tackle at the next level?

CB: "Yeah, I think I am an offensive tackle."

JH: What do you do best in the offensive line?

CB: "I think I have good skill at both run blocking and pass blocking. I play with good technique and want to improve all the time. I like to get coached and I want to play with good coaches at the next level."

JH: How good is Dallas Carter going to be this year?

CB: "I think we are going to be pretty good this year. This is coach's (Alan Wilson) fourth year and I think we are going to be better than in his first three years. Everybody on our line is 6-foot-1 or bigger. I am at left tackle at 6-7, our left guard is 6-5, our center 6-3, right guard 6-4 and our right tackle is 6-1.
