RECRUITING: Sooners still lead for DT Simmons?

RECRUITING: Sooners still lead for DT Simmons?

Hargrave Military Academy (Virginia) defensive tackle Brian Simmons update.

Brian Simmons, DT, 6-5, 305, HARGRAVE MILITARY ACADEMY, VIRGINIA:

JH: How is your season going?

BS: "We have lost our last three games and we are now 6-3 on the year. We started out great, but unfortunately I haven't been able to play in the last three games because of a broken finger. I had surgery on it last week and I am out for the season."

JH: How did you break your finger?

BS: "I was pass rushing and I was ripping coming off the line, and my finger got caught in a guys shoulder pads and got twisted. I knew my finger was hurt right away, but I didn't think it was that serious. It got pretty sore later, and when I went to the doctor he said that I broke it. The first doctor put my splint on incorrectly and actually had my bone puncturing through my tendon. That is why I had to have surgery. When that doctor messed up my finger I had to have surgery to fix what he did, and that is why I can't play the rest of the season. He made my finger worse. If I had gone to my second doctor I would be playing in the final two games."

JH: How were you doing individually?

BS: "They don't keep stats up here because they believe in the total team concept. I am disappointed that my season is over, but I feel I had a very good season. I made a lot of big plays and I am proud of the way my season went."

JH: What is going on in recruiting?

BS: "My first visit is going to be to Oklahoma for the Nebraska game. I guess I will take another visit after that, but I really like Oklahoma. I plan to take five visits, but I really don't know if I will do that or not. Oklahoma is my first visit and we will see how that goes."

JH: What are your thoughts on Oklahoma?

BS: "I am very excited about my visit to Oklahoma. I have heard a lot of good things about the game time atmosphere at Oklahoma and I am looking forward to see it for myself."

JH: How is recruiting stacking up with you at the moment?

BS: "Oklahoma is still my favorite school and that hasn't changed. However, Auburn, Miami and Tennessee have all started to show me a great deal of interest. OU is still my top school, but I will probably visit Auburn for sure."

JH: What is it that you like about Oklahoma?

BS: "Oklahoma was the first school to offer me and that stands out with me. I also enjoy talking to the coaching staff at Oklahoma. Bob Stoops is such a down-to-earth guy that if you didn't know he was the head coach at Oklahoma you wouldn't believe it talking to him. He just talks to you just like a regular guy. Then I love talking to Coach (Jackie) Shipp. He is an easy-going guy to talk too as well. I feel like we have been great friends forever. And really, we have only known each other since April. One thing that I like about Coach Shipp real well is that other coaches are always talking to me about how good I am, while he is always talking to me about my weaknesses and telling me how he can help me correct those."

JH: Auburn is a new team that you have been talking about recently, so how did you get interested in the Tigers?

BS: "I have always felt that Auburn was a good program and this year they have been playing outstanding. They are one of the powerhouses in the SEC and they are always a good team. I also talked to their coaching staff. I think they are going to be very good over the next four years and that would be while I am there. I have been talking to them for about a month now and I want to go and see what they are about."
