RECRUITING: Lofton talks about decision

Kingfisher, Okla. linebacker Curtis Lofton says his relationship with OU linebacker coach Brent Venables and several Sooner players helped him pick the Sooners over childhood favorite Oklahoma State and Kansas State.

CURTIS LOFTON, LB, 6-2, 225, 4.65, KINGFISHER, OK:

JH: Congratulations on picking OU.

CL: "Thanks. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make and I am just glad to get it over with."

JH: What was the big difference in your decision to pick OU over the other schools involved?

CL: "Me and Coach (Brent) Venables have a great bond. Plus, some of the players just signed by OU I already have a great relationship with. Marcus Walker and Adrian Peterson are guys that I am already good friends with."

JH: Did you know for a little while that OU was the school for you or did you struggle with your decision all the way up to your announcement?

CL: "At the Jim Thorpe banquet I met Coach Venables for the first time. He went back to his office and watched film on me, and I guess he really liked how I played. He then started to write me and when he called he invited me down to Norman. I started going down there to hang out and watch film and things, and I started to think that OU was the place for me."

JH: You mentioned earlier that you were going to look at several factors. Based on those factors, was OU the clear choice?

CL: "I really didn't try to look at statistics. I was just trying to go with a school that was best for me and that was the best fit. That was Oklahoma in many ways."

JH: So this decision was based on a gut feeling?

CL: "Earlier in the week I went to OSU for a couple of scrimmages and they told me to go to bed and think about OSU, and when I wake up see how I feel about OSU. Well, when I woke up I didn't feel go good about OSU. And then I went to OU, I felt great when I woke up the next day. I knew then I was going to OU."
