RECRUITING: Texas receiver pulls the trigger

Gilmer, Texas wide receiver Manuel Johnson (pictured left during his sophomore season) talks about his decision to commit to Oklahoma. Johnson chose the Sooners over Texas Tech, Penn State, Oklahoma State and Nebraska.

Manuel Johnson, WR, 6-1, 170, 4.45, Gilmer, Texas:

JH: Talk about your commitment to OU?

MJ: "I had talked to my coaches and my dad and my family and they felt if my mind was made up that I should go ahead and announce my decision. My aunt wanted me to take one more trip, but after everybody got together and realized that Oklahoma was really where I wanted to go, they felt that I should just go ahead and do it."

JH: What is about OU that grabbed your attention so early in the recruiting process?

MJ: "Their offense is similar to ours and they use the wide receivers a great deal. I like their passing game and OU always has great quarterback. Plus, OU is always playing for championships. They are always playing for the Big 12 Championship or always playing for the National Championship, and I want to be a part of that."

JH: Did the fact that OU is graduating so many wide receivers help in your decision to come to OU?

MJ: "I talked to Coach (Darrell) Wyatt about that a lot and he said that he had five wide receivers graduating. He was honest with me in that he had he had a few underclassmen receivers on the team, but when you consider how many wide receivers OU likes to play it is not hard to see that there is a good chance to play next year at wide receiver at OU."

JH: What kind of team will you have this year?

MJ: "We lost our quarterback from last year, but our new quarterback is very good. I think we are going to have a good team and get into the playoffs.

JH: Who did you choose OU over?

MJ: "Texas Tech, Penn State, OSU and Nebraska."
