Mixon breaks his silence

Joe Mixon is still a hot-button topic as evidenced by his return to Twitter on Tuesday.

Oklahoma freshman Joe Mixon returned to Twitter on Tuesday, releasing his first tweet since July 24, his 18th birthday.

Mixon, a five-star running back recruit for the Sooners from Oakley (Calif.) Freedom, was suspended for the season by the university Monday afternoon. The statement was released by OU just hours after Mixon was being arraigned on a misdemeanor charge.

The tweet itself is lyrics from a Drake song, but the real story is the outpouring of responses that have come to Mixon, both positive and negative.

Mixon was among the most active recruits on Twitter during his recruitment. But he deactivated his account July 25 following an altercation with 20-year-old Amelia Rae Molitor at Pickleman’s Gourmet Café following his 18th birthday party.

Mixon is scheduled for another court date 9 a.m. on Sept. 23.

Here is a small sample of tweets directed toward Mixon. As of 7:30 p.m. CST Tuesday night, Mixon’s tweet had been retweeted 286 times and favorited 402 times. He issued the tweet at 4:38.
