It had been 84 days since Oklahoma received a commitment for the Class of 2015, but the Sooners got a big one Friday night.
Belleville (Ill.) West kicker Austin Seibert, regarded by many as the top kicker in the country, confirmed Friday night he has pledged to OU.
Seibert is making his second trip to Norman this weekend having already visited OU for its first junior day back in February.
He was hoping for the offer then, and he admitted he was a little disappointed. Instead of being upset, he used it as motivation. OU special teams coach Jay Boulware said he would evaluate Seibert during the spring evaluation period.
Not much evaluation was needed a couple of weeks ago as Boulware quickly offered Seibert following a trip to Belleville West High. Despite having offers from all over the country, Seibert said the one from OU meant just a little bit more, especially because of Boulware's impressive track record with kickers.
Since OU earned its last commitment on Valentine's Day, the Sooners had actually lost two commitments so OU fans are hoping Seibert is the start of some positive momentum for the Sooners going forward.
Kohl's Kicking ranks Seibert the No. 1 kicker just as it ranked Wesley Horky as the No. 1 long snapper for the 2014 class. Horky signed with the Sooners two months ago and was among the first to congratulate Seibert on his commitment on Twitter on Friday.
Seibert is OU's fourth commitment for the Class of 2015 and closes the door on Boulware's search for the next big kicker after Michael Hunnicutt graduates following the 2014 season.
