Sooners clinch No. 2 seed in conference

OU knew its scenario heading into the final regular season game, and the Sooners certainly took care of business to secure the second seed in the conference tournament.

FORT WORTH, Texas – The scenario was simple for Oklahoma. If the Sooners could pull off the road win at TCU, then they would be the No. 2 seed in next week's Big 12 tournament.

OU slipped up in Fort Worth last season and made sure it didn't happen again. Paced by their outside shooting, the Sooners cruised to a 97-67 victory against the Horned Frogs on Saturday afternoon.

OU was 0-of-16 on its 3-point field goal attempts last year at TCU. This time around the Sooners drained 14 of their 30 attempts. And after leading by 15 points at halftime, OU never took its foot off the gas pedal and went on a 21-2 run in the middle of the half to put the game away.

It was another solid outing for sophomore guard Buddy Hield, who scored a game-high 24 points and made 5 of his 8 attempts from 3-point territory.

A staple for this year's club has been the unselfishness, and OU dished out 25 assists with four players having at least four. Freshman guard Jordan Woodard led the way with six assists.

Sophomore Isaiah Cousins had another bounce back game as well, scoring 18 points and going 4 of 5 on his 3-point field goals. Senior Cam Clark also had 18 points.

The win concludes an incredible regular season for the Sooners. OU stands at 23-8 overall and 12-6 in the Big 12.

OU will play the waiting game in the Big 12 conference tournament as the Sooners are schedule to play the winner of the Baylor/TCU game 6 p.m. CST Thursday in Kansas City in the conference quarterfinals.

OU swept the Bears and Horned Frogs this season.
