Ijalana back with Sooners

OU commit Isaac Ijalana

Recruiting can be an emotional business. Most recruits that decommit don't end up back at the original school. That's not the case for OU and juco TE Isaac Ijalana who is back with the Sooners.

That's why it's called a commitment and that's why you still have to time to think things over and over and over.

Los Angeles Pierce College tight end Isaac Ijalana needed all that time to figure it out once and for all Oklahoma is the place for him.

Ijalana, who originally committed to the Sooners last month, decommitted from OU two weeks ago after some confusion about his academic standing following a visit from OU tight ends coach Jay Boulware.

He didn't waste any time and visited Purdue last weekend, and it was obvious heading into this last week it was down to the Sooners and Boilermakers.

With finals week last week, Ijalana made up his mind early in the week and said he was focusing on school and would announce Sunday, which also happened to be his birthday.

He let the world know Sunday evening by tweeting he's ready to be a Sooner once again and confirmed via text message. Even though he decommitted from the Sooners, things never soured between him and the program.

It was a mis-communication issue, but Ijalana also wanted to see what else was out there. He saw what he needed to see, and OU was still the place for him.

And OU still wanted Ijalana. The Sooners need two tight ends for this class. OU has had the high school prospect it searched for since the summer with Tulsa (Okla.) Union three-star prospect Carson Meier.

But it became apparent in the fall OU wanted a mid-year junior college prospect as well. Not somebody who would graduate in May, needed somebody who could be on campus next month.

Ijalana can, Ijalana will, and he is the guy. Ijalana is OU's 18th commitment for the Class of 2014 and can sign his letter of intent Wednesday.

Following a week of "so close but so far" for OU on the recruiting trail with three prospects picking other finalists, the Sooners are able to nab a top target once again.
