Some schools are wondering about his transcripts, but Oklahoma feels confident everything is going to work out for Cypress (Texas) Falls defensive tackle Du’Vonta Lampkin.
Lampkin, a four-star tackle for the Class of 2015, confirmed Monday evening he has committed to the Sooners.
He has been hoping to visit campus all season but said he has been unable to at this point. He hopes to visit, for sure, during the winter.
“This feels good,” Lampkin said. “It was spring ball last year when things first started. It was April.”
OU defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery monitored Lampkin throughout this season and offered him earlier this season.
A lot of schools have been showing interest like Texas, Texas A&M and Alabama, among numerous others. But the Sooners were the only offer because of his unsteady academic standing. Lampkin said he is confident everything is going to work out.
Lampkin said he grew up liking OU. Not as much as Texas or A&M, but the Sooners won him over with their consistent interest.
Lampkin called Montgomery on Monday to let him know his decision.
“It’s like an early Christmas gift,” said Lampkin about what Montgomery said after hearing about his commitment.
Lampkin is 6-foot-3 and 280 pounds and could be the start of a solid defensive line class for the 2015 crop.
He is OU’s third commit of the class, joining fellow four-star offensive linemen Allen (Texas) High’s Bobby Evans and Oklahoma City Casady’s Josh Wariboko.
