Flowers wastes no time in OU pledge

New OU commit Dimitri Flowers

OU has its answer at fullback on the recruiting trail with the addition of San Antonio tight end prospect Dimitri Flowers.

It was one of those things no Oklahoma fan has wanted to think about. Who is going to replace fullback Trey Millard at fullback?

We'll find out on the field Thursday, but the answer on the recruiting trail was answered Wednesday as San Antonio Churchill fullback Dimitri Flowers said he has switched his commitment from Boise State to OU.

It took a while to get the OU offer. But once he did, Flowers, who is 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, thought the domino effect would happen pretty fast.

"I kind of thought it would, but was pretty fast," Flowers said. "They first looked at me back in the spring, but I hadn't heard anything."

Very typical in OU fashion as coaches stress senior film evaluation, but it's tough sometimes for recruits to take coaches at their words.

Once again, the Sooners did everything they said they were going to do. OU cornerbacks coach Bobby Jack Wright, who handles OU recruiting in San Antonio, visited Flowers a week ago on OU's bye week, and Flowers said the offer came Saturday.

"OU has always been one of those schools. Ever since the beginning in my sophomore year," Flowers said. "I thought they had just moved on."

But then Flowers realized OU hadn't because the Sooners hadn't offered anybody they thought could fulfill Millard's duties.

Committed to Boise State since June, it was a tough decision for Flowers but one he knew he had to make.

It's clear the Sooners have found their Millard replacement.

"My versatility is my strength," Flowers said. "They told me I'm going to be used exactly the way Trey Millard has been used. I feel like I'm a good fit for this one."

Flowers still hasn't visited the OU campus, but he said that's not a problem. He said he will visit the campus once his senior season is over.

The commitment is OU's first in nearly two months and its 15th overall for the Class of 2014. The offer came Saturday, and Flowers said by Sunday he knew OU was going to be the choice for him.
