Oklahoma has avoided the injury bug for the most part during its 5-0 start but now the Sooners will have to face some adversity.
Senior captain linebacker Corey Nelson will undergo surgery Tuesday and will likely miss the rest of the season, OU coach Bob Stoops announced Sunday afternoon.
Nelson injured his right shoulder in the third quarter of OU’s 20-17 victory against TCU and has a partially torn pectoral muscle.
Nelson has 27 tackles, four pass breakups and an interception returned for a touchdown this season and has been a huge part of OU’s success on defense.
With Nelson out, freshman Dominique Alexander played the majority of the snaps in the second half against the Horned Frogs and will have to step up even more during the rest of the season.
