TCU searches for its first conference win, while OU looks to remain unbeaten.

SoonersIllustrated.com is going to set the stage every week breaking down Oklahoma’s game during the 2013 season.

No. 11 OU (4-0, 1-0) vs. TCU (2-2, 0-1)

When: 6 p.m. CST Saturday

OU’s biggest question going into the game

How will the Sooners defense be able to contain TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin? The OU defense has answered the call in all four games this season.

No matter the situation, it has been up to the task. The physicality was the question against Notre Dame and that wasn’t an issue.

But Boykin offers something the Sooners haven’t seen this season in terms of a quality dual-threat quarterback. OU has had issues with quarterbacks like Boykin before and this will be the first time OU sees a quarterback like Boykin using this year’s system.

“He’s a great athlete that can extend plays, terrifically strong arm, can throw the ball down the field very well and again a lot of quarterback run game,” OU defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said. “Those guys are always dangerous. We’re going to hopefully keep him in the pocket and keep him from scrambling.”

TCU has a home run hitter in wide receiver Brandon Carter so it’s even more imperative OU find a way to put consistent pressure on Boykin.

TCU’s biggest question going into the game

Did the Horned Frogs turn the corner with their 31-point fourth quarter against SMU? It’s tough to fault the TCU defense through the first four games of the season.

With or without star Devonte Fields, TCU has still been able to maintain its defensive prowess. But the offense hasn’t always been clicking.

That was until a fourth quarter explosion last week against rival SMU. The defense did help with takeaways, but TCU closed with 31 points in the quarter to earn a decisive victory.

“Offensively, with Boykin they cause you problems,” OU coach Bob Stoops said. “They spread the ball out. (Brandon) Carter is a great, speedy receiver that can hurt you. They’re a dangerous team like always, like they were a year ago.”

Did TCU find its footing last week, or will the Sooners be able to make it just a temporary resurgence?

Quotable

“Giving up 10 touchdowns through four games, holding people, three yards per carry, creating three turnovers a game, they’re playing as good as anyone we play. It’s a huge step for us offensively. A year ago, they did a great job of getting us off the field during third downs. We were in a lot of third-and-longs. We can’t do that this week.”- OU offensive coordinator Josh Heupel

Breakout player

Feeling pretty good after the Eric Striker prediction last week. This week isn’t really a breakout player because he has put up some quality numbers already, but Saturday is going to be a good day for senior running back Brennan Clay. It’s tough for one of the running backs to stand out when they’re all so talented and all getting their chances. But Clay will make the most of his against the Horned Frogs and come up with huge runs in the second half.

Prediction

OU 31, TCU 19. Coming off a 14-point victory at Notre Dame, expectations are going to be high for OU to put up huge numbers. But TCU’s defense might be a little better than the Irish and will certainly give the Sooners some difficulty. No doubt TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin is going to give OU something to think about before the Sooners solve the riddle in the second half and roll into the Red River Rivalry at 5-0 and 2-0 in conference play.
