No surprise here. Coming off his history making performance, Oklahoma junior quarterback Blake Bell was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, the conference announced.
Bell, in his first start for the Sooners, was 27-of-37 for 413 yards and four touchdowns and no interceptions in OU’s 51-20 win against Tulsa. The 413 passing yards is the most ever for an OU quarterback making his first start.
After seeing limited action in OU’s first two games, Bell was given the keys last week. His performance has him in the driver’s seat for now as OU coach Bob Stoops said Bell will start in two weeks at Notre Dame.
This is the second straight week an OU player has been honored by the conference. Safety Gabe Lynn earned defensive honors last week.
