Relationship with Wright draws in Windham

OU cornerback commit Tito Windham

NORMAN, Okla. — Bobby Jack Wright and the Sooners locked up their second cornerback pledge in the last week yesterday, and this time he was a major factor.

All Harrison Central HS corner Tito Windham could talk about is his relationship with his future position coach and the impact he could have on his game.

"I'm real excited," Windham said. "I know he can get me to the top, so, yes, that's why I'm coming here."

Wright extended the offer nearly a year ago, according to the 5-foot-10, 175-pound defensive back from Gulfport, Miss., and he's mulled it over since then.

May 17, 2013 became the day when he stopped mulling it over.

"I'm real excited about everything, everything going on," Windham said.

He's most excited about the potential opportunity to fight for immediate playing time upon his arrival.

"He keeps telling me how they really want me, how I could have a chance to start all my four years after [Aaron] Colvin and them graduate and then I come in," Windham said.

As a matter of fact, OU loses four seniors at the cornerback position, so there will be some room in there to battle.

Along with his relationship with Wright, Windham has also built a rapport with OU defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, who returned before last season and also coaches the secondary.

The two have had several chats and developed chemistry that way.

"I think he's really cool, real cool," Windham said. "On the sideline he'll get mad at you [sometimes], but go back to work."

OU's newest commit is expected to make a trip up to Norman sometime this summer, perhaps this fall for an official to check things out.

What he expects out of his future destination?

"I'm hoping to see the whole coaching staff, a few players, talk to those guys, like how the program is," Windham said.

When that is, it's yet to be determined.

As for now, the Sooners have their second corner and seventh overall commit for the 2014 class.
